Blogs Vs. Website

While comparing the blogs I found to the websites I found the websites were more useful. Blogs were just full of opinions of what people thought of stereotyping and what it was and it was a more bias opionion. In the websites you saw a more broad perspective of what stereotyping towards blacks was. One good thing about blogs was sometimes you find something of importance there that you wouldn’t find in a website. I like websites because they are more factual then a blog, I can trust websites more.

I chose this article because it tells me how the stereotyping of African American came about. How minstrelsy had a huge affect on how we see black people and the exaggerations that were made about black people during the minstrelsy performances. This journal is a study piece piece written by an African American, it isn’t that long but has a lot of useful information in a few paragraphs.

The reason I chose this article is because it not only gives me the negative stereotypes of black people but also the positive ones. Some negatives ones are like, “All black people do drugs” and the positive ones are like ” A lot of African Americans are athletic”. This article is a study piece, the author researched how negative and hostile people acted towards blacks just because of stereotypes they heard and how they assumed they were good at sports just because they were black. They also researched how non-colored people acted towards blacks when first meeting them and not knowing anything about them. The author wanted to see if the people would use their stereotypes to strike conversation.

In this article blacks and whites were compared. They did a research thing showing two pictures of African Americans and whites doing the same wrong deed and how the black people were more known for doing something wrong or illegal. I think this article is of significance because it helps a lot with why people stereotype and how much they do.

I chose this topic because its very relevant to my cluster theme. We have been focusing a lot on racism and the stereotypes people have of African Americans. This interests me because I’m very much against racism and stereotyping people and I’d to get more information about it. I, myself, have been a victim of stereotyping and racism so I think I can relate to it.
